Load Test Bags are Work Equipment, so covered by PUWER (Provision and
Use of Work Equipment Regulations).

Liftbags should be in maintained in accordance with IMCA LR 007, D 016 – Rev. 4  (International Marine Contractors Association).

They are also subject to LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment
Regulations 1998) as the action of testing is a lifting operation.

When in use, the following should happen:

• Bags inspected before each use for damage
• At suitable intervals, additional checks for wear and tear
• A thorough examination should be conducted as a minimum every 6 months or after a continuous period of use when, harnesses will require adjustment..
•  Inspections and examinations should be conducted by a competent person.
  

The lifting set (straps, shackles and links) should be examined at an interval not exceeding 6 months or in accordance with the requirements of LOLER.

The bag should be inspected and the lifting set thoroughly examined following major modifications, refurbishment, repair or exceptional circumstances which are liable to jeopardise the safety of the bag.

This inspection should include inflation testing up to 0.5 BAR.
